Greetings, Jazz Fans! Ace Gillett’s Music Director John Olson here to let you know what we have cued up for this week:
Jazz Jam Session
Wednesday, 5/8 – 7:00 to 11:00 pm
Tonight we’re back to our weekly Jazz Jam Session, hosted by Spencer Zweifel, David Baker and myself. Drums, Piano, Bass and a Vocal mic are all provided. As always, we ask that interested performers follow our musician’s dress code of suit and tie for men and cocktail attire for women. All playing levels are welcome and encouraged to attend to play and network with other local jazz musicians. Happy Hour pricing in the Lounge all night!
Gabriel Mervine
Thursday, 5/9 – 8:00 to Midnight
The Subterraneans welcome Gabriel Mervine on trumpet and flugelhorn, accompanied by Tom Amend, Seth Lewis and myself. Gabriel is extremely busy playing music in Denver, so we’re always excited to have him for a night of Jazz at Ace’s. He was a longtime member of the Motet but is spending more time closer to home these days. If you haven’t heard Gabe before, come on down to see what all of the buzz is about (and maybe ask him to explain “circular breathing” to you).
Lenore Raphael & Steve Hobbs
Friday, 5/10 – 8:00 to Midnight
The Subterraneans have a special night in store, as we welcome pianist Lenore Raphael and vibraphonist Steve Hobbs for the Fort Collins leg of their Colorado Tour. They will be accompanied by Matt Smiley and myself. Steve and Lenore are visiting from North Carolina, with shows in Denver, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins. Steve and I played in a band together more than 35 years ago, and I can’t wait to play music with him again! The last time we had an opportunity to hang out was when I lived in Los Angeles, and Steve was in town to record an album with John Patitucci, Alan Broadbent, Jo LaBarbera, Bob Shepard and Luis Conte. I spent two incredible days in the studio watching this band record, and it’s an experience I’ll never forget!
The Ben Markley Trio
Saturday, 5/11– 8:00 to Midnight
The Ben Markley Trio is back, featuring Seth Lewis and myself. Ben has an extremely busy schedule this summer, so catch him at Ace’s while you can!
Mark Sloniker
Sunday, 5/12 – 7:00 to 11:00 pm
Tonight we welcome back Mark Sloniker to his usual Sunday night slot. Sundays usually start with Mark on solo piano, with friends, family and other musical guests joining him throughout the evening. He has been a musical treasure in Fort Collins since the early 80’s and we’re happy to feature him on a weekly basis!
As you may have already heard, renovations for Ace Gillett’s are on hold for the time being. Spread the word that we’ll continue featuring your favorite food, cocktails and Live Jazz Wednesday through Sunday nights until further notice. If you haven’t had a chance to see the renovations at the Armstrong, come on down and admire the transformation!
