Greetings, Jazz Fans! Ace Gillett’s Music Director John Olson here to let you know what we have cued up for your listening pleasure this week:
Ryan Fourt & Katie Harris
Wednesday, 11/07 – 7:30 to 11:00
Ryan Fourt and Katie Harris return tonight with their unique blend of jazz standards and pop tunes done in a jazzy style. This is their only show at Ace this month, so don’t miss it!
Briana Harris
Thursday, 11/8 – 8:00 to Midnight
The Subterraneans are happy to welcome Briana Harris on alto saxophone. Backing up Bri this week will be Spencer Zweifel, Seth Lewis and Riley Williams. Bri has had a couple of busy months performing with “the Burroughs,” and we’re happy to have her back at Ace Gillett’s.
Steve Kovalcheck
Friday, 11/9 – 8:00 to Midnight
The Subterraneans welcome back Steve Kovalcheck on guitar, with Spencer Zweifel, Seth Lewis and John Olson. If you haven’t had the opportunity to hear Steve, you owe it to yourself to see firsthand why he’s such a popular musical guest with the Ace Gillett’s crowd. The big question is what guitar and amp he’ll decide to bring this week. I’m placing my bets on the Fender Telecaster with a vintage Vox amp.
Jack Roben
Saturday, 11/10 – 8:00 to Midnight
Ace Gillett’s will be featuring young guitar phenom Jack Roben in a Trio setting, joined by Seth Lewis and John Olson. Jack recently moved here to enter the Masters Program at UNC after finishing his undergrad at the famed jazz institution, the University of North Texas. Jack has a unique style that’s traditional and contemporary in equal amounts and he’s quickly becoming part of our regular rotation of featured musical guests. Come down to see what all the buzz is about!
Mark Sloniker
Sunday, 11/11 – 7:00 to 11:00
Fort Collins’ longtime favorite pianist Mark Sloniker joins us for his regular Sunday slot. For those of you that have been around Fort Collins for a long time, you might remember Mark’s Residency at the Wine Cellar, a now defunct restaurant just south of the Foothills Mall that was “the” place to hear local live jazz in the early 90’s. Mark played there so many nights, that the sustain pedal from his piano wore a permanent mark in the parquet wood floor of the lounge area. We used to joke that he needed to hang that piece of wood up in his studio someday as a reminder of all the fantastic music that he was a part of for all those years. I’m not sure if we just talked about it or if it actually happened….you’ll have to ask Mark to tell you the story the next time you see him at Ace!
Thanks to every one that came to our Jazz Jam Session this past Monday night! It was a stellar turnout, with our last jammer taking the stage just before we stopped at 11:00. In addition to some of our regular attendees, we had a lot of new faces sitting in for their first time with the Ace Gillett’s House Trio. Stay tuned for details on our next Jam Session in December.
