Ace Gillett’s Musical Happenings: Week of 11.13.19

Greetings, Jazz Fans! Ace Gillett’s Music Director John Olson here to let you know what we have cued up for this week:

Jazz Jam Session

Wednesday, 11/13 – 7:00 to 11:00 pm

Tonight we’re having our weekly Jazz Jam Session, hosted this week by Jack Roben (guitar), Matt Smiley (bass) and myself. Drums, Piano, Bass, Guitar Amp and a Vocal mic are all provided. As always, we ask that all interested performers follow our musician’s dress code of suit and tie for men and cocktail attire for women. All playing levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. Weekly food and drink specials are featured as well!

Free Bear

Thursday, 11/14 – 7:00 to 11:00 pm

Gabriel Mervine (trumpet/flugelhorn), Tom Amend (piano) and Patrick McDevitt (bass) play together in the Denver-based group “Free Bear,” which explores the funkier side of jazz with its’ original compositions. I’m looking forward to hearing and playing their material on a night that takes us out of the typical straight-ahead jazz vein.

Andrew Vogt

Friday, 11/15– 8:00 to Midnight

The Subterraneans welcome back local Sax-man Andrew Vogt, accompanied by Amaya Arevalo, Seth Lewis and myself. Andrew will have copies of his latest CD “Distracted by Donuts” available for sale (they make a great stocking stuffer)!

Adam Astrup

Saturday, 11/16 – 8:00 to Midnight

The Subterraneans welcome Adam Astrup on guitar, joined by Michael Rinko and myself. Adam is studying Jazz at UNC while Michael is doing the same at CSU. This is the first time this Trio has performed together and I’m looking forward to making music with these talented young musicians!

Mark Sloniker

Sunday, 11/17 – 7:00 to 11:00 pm

Local Legend Mark Sloniker is back behind the piano to play all of your favorites. Mark usually plays solo for the first set and is joined by family and friends throughout the evening.

As you may have already heard, renovations for Ace Gillett’s are on hold for the time being. Spread the word that we’ll continue featuring your favorite food, cocktails and Live Jazz Wednesday through Sunday nights until further notice. If you haven’t had a chance to see the renovations at the Armstrong, come on down and admire the transformation! Also note that we’re working on plans for our annual New Year’s Eve Bash, so save the date for an evening filled with dancing and celebrating!

As always, Thank You for supporting Live Jazz at Ace Gillett’s – I hope to see you there soon!
