Greetings, Jazz Fans! Ace Gillett’s Music Director John Olson here to let you know what we have cued up for your listening pleasure this week:
Wednesday, 12/19 – 7:30 to 11:00
Ace Gillett’s is happy to welcome back Jenna McLean on vocals, accompanied by Jack Roben on guitar. Jenna and Jack are developing an incredible musical chemistry these days – if you haven’t had the opportunity to hear them in a duo setting yet, tonight is your chance. Jenna’s repertoire is vast, and since Christmas is only six days away, I’m sure you’ll hear some Holiday Classics tonight!
Thursday, 12/20 – 8:00 pm It’s showtime!
Tonight is the night we’ve been waiting for with great anticipation! Ace Gillett’s is proud to present the Dave King Trio, featuring Matt Mitchell on piano and Billy Peterson on bass. We’ve been talking about this show for weeks – this is the type of concert that you rarely have a chance to witness outside of “Big-city Jazz Clubs,” and we’re honored that they chose Ace Gillett’s for one of the two nights they’re performing in Colorado. We have a couple of reserved tables remaining and general admission tickets, available for purchase via the below button. This is a show we’re going to be talking about for years. Don’t miss your chance to see these masters of improvisational modern jazz in the intimate setting of Mantz Hall at Ace Gillett’s.
Friday, 12/21– 8:00 to Midnight
The Subterraneans welcome back two of our favorite jazz educators, Peter Sommer and Ben Markley. Peter is the Director of Jazz Studies at Colorado State and Ben holds the same position at the University of Wyoming. There is no Border War when it comes to jazz! Peter and Ben have played together countless times with various jazz ensembles and it’s always a musical treat when we can have them together for a night at Ace. Rounding out the group for the evening is the talented Bill McCrossen on bass and yours truly on drums. Go Rams!….and Cowboys!
Saturday, 12/22 – 8:00 to Midnight
It must be jazz educator weekend, as we welcome two of the esteemed jazz faculty members from the University of Northern Colorado – Steve Kovalcheck on guitar and Erik Applegate on bass, joined by myself on drums. The three of us have played together many times over the years, but this will be our first time as a Trio. Steve is always one of our favorite featured soloists and we don’t get to see Erik nearly enough, so this is definitely going to be a fun night of music.
Sunday, 12/23 – 7:00 to 11:00
This close to Christmas, I’m betting that local favorite Mark Sloniker will have plenty of Holiday classics on his setlist for the night – hopefully with his wife Colleen Crosson and daughter Emma Sloniker (who recently graduated – congratulations, Emma!) adding some vocals to the musical merriment.
As always, Thank You for supporting live jazz at Ace Gillett’s – I hope to see you there soon!
