Ace Gillett’s is excited to announce a special show celebrating the release of Tom Amend’s debut Organ Trio recording “Frontier Justice,” featuring Steve Kovalcheck on guitar and legendary jazz drummer Jeff Hamilton. Tom Amend has been a featured performer at Ace Gillett’s for several years. He is an organist, pianist, composer and arranger based in Denver, CO. Tom received his Bachelor of Music Jazz Studies and Masters of Music in Jazz Composition from the University of Northern Colorado. Tom has performed and recorded extensively with The Burroughs and the Taylor Scott Band. In addition to performing at Ace Gillett’s, Tom is active as an in-demand keyboardist on the Denver Jazz Scene.
Guitarist Steve Kovalcheck has been a member of the UNC Music Faculty since 2009 and a featured performer at Ace Gillett’s since 2010. In addition to numerous performances throughout Colorado, Steve has recorded and toured with Robinella and the C.C. String Band and played with Viktor Krauss, the “New York Voices,” Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Jazz Orchestra, Jeff Coffin, Tommy sims, Carrie Rodriguez, Pat Bianchi and many others.
Jeff Hamilton’s music resume is a testament to his status as a legendary jazz drummer. In addition to his work with the Jeff Hamilton Trio and co-leading the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Jeff has worked extensively with Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Lionel Hampton, Monty Alexander, the L.A. 4, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney and Diana Krall. Jeff has played on nearly 200 recordings with Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Milt Jackson, Rosemary Clooney, Barbra Streisand, Mel Torme, John Pizzarelli, Benny Carter, Lalo Schifrin, George Shearing, Dr. John, Clark Terry, Gene Harris, Toshiko Akioshi, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Bill Holman, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel and many others.
