We can trace The Flip’s origins back to the late seventeenth-century England where beer, rum, and sugar were mixed and heated with a red-hot iron poker. The hot iron caused the liquid to froth or “flip” and the name has stuck ever since. Today, Flips can be served hot (without a red-hot poker!) or cold and most recipes have dropped the beer and added egg or another rich ingredient.

Join us on Saturday March 30th at 3:00pm at Ace Gillett’s Lounge for a 1 hour class celebrating and discussing the history, ingredients, techniques, and variations of this delightfully comforting family of cocktails. We will taste a classic Flip recipe along with several variant recipes.
