Performing with musical group Rare Moment at Elitch Gardens in Denver Colorado, John Olson had his professional debut at just sixteen years old. After four years playing with Colorado State University’s #1 jazz band, he spent a summer performing with Walt Disney’s All-American College Band and successfully led alternative-rock bands Kaustic Kids and Joe Sockit and The Wrenches.
After his success in Colorado, John moved to Los Angeles, where he played with the Spencer Davis Group, spent four years with the alternative rock band the Visionaries and worked as a freelance writer for Drums and Drumming Magazine. In 1990 and 1991, John worked as a Stage Manager for Disneyland’s Guest Talent Division and in their Talent Booking Department, hiring a variety of acts for the Disneyland Hotel and Spruce Goose Entertainment Center.
John returned to Colorado in 1992, where he played with a diverse group of bands and solo artists, including The Atoll, Liz Barnez, Wind Machine, Jakarta, Swing Essence, Mark Sloniker, Bard Hoff and for 5 years with the Freddi-Henchi Band. In 2010, John created Subterranean Jazz Concepts, to provide music and entertainment direction for Ace Gillett’s Lounge.
