It’s hard to believe we’re celebrating 9 years of the best jazz and cocktails in Northern Colorado, and this year we have even more to celebrate in anticipation of our upcoming renovation. Nine may seem young for a facelift, but we’ve been partying pretty hard down here. We’ve decided to host a throwback week to honor the most iconic Ace cocktails, as well as a few of your favorite dishes over the years. Come down for a visit and reminisce a bit with the Ace you know and love and help us prepare to usher in a new era this summer. We’ll still be here, just with tasteful updates, an expanded craft cocktail program and even more reasons for you to love us.
Throwback Cocktails $9
Ace Gillett’s Signature Cocktail. We use daily fresh squeezed grapefruit juice alongside grapefruit vodka, elderflower liqueur, and bittersweet Italian liqueur to make this one of the most refreshing cocktails in Northern Colorado.
An Ace Gillett’s classic, blending together the bold flavors of Bourbon, Sweet Vermouth, and Orange infused Cognac while tamed by a hint of fresh lemon.
Another Ace Gillett’s favorite, we use imported Lychee Juice, Lychee flavored liqueur, and pear vodka to make a deliciously sweet and delicate cocktail.
A tart yet powerfully floral cocktail that combines Blue Iris Flavored Gin, Elderflower, and fresh lemon.
Ace’s regular menu will be available as well
Wednesday, 3/27 – 7:30 to 11:00
Vocalist Jenna McLean will be joined by UNC Faculty Member Steve Kovalcheck on guitar. Steve is featured on Jenna’s recent release “Brighter Day,” and they’re sure to play some selections from this fantastic debut recording. Jenna will have CD’s available for sale so that you can take some jazz home with you!
Thursday, 3/28 – 8:00 to Midnight
the Subterraneans welcome tenor saxophonist Peter Sommer and pianist Jeff Jenkins, accompanied by Seth Lewis and John Olson. Peter has been performing at Ace’s from the very beginning, and is still part of our monthly rotation of featured soloists. He is the Director of Jazz Studies for Colorado State, in addition to a busy performing schedule as a favorite on the Colorado jazz scene. Jeff Jenkins was a founding member of the group Kinesis in Colorado in the early 1980’s. After leaving that group to play Broadway Shows in New York, Jeff resettled in Colorado. In addition to teaching jazz piano at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Jeff is an active performer in the area on piano and Hammond B3 Organ. Jeff has been performing at Ace’s since our early days and it’s always a fun night when we have Jeff and Peter on the same bill.
Friday, 3/29 – 8:00 to Midnight
the Subterraneans welcome multi-saxophonist Andrew Vogt, accompanied by Tom Amend, Seth Lewis and John Olson. Andrew was our featured soloist for opening night 9 years ago, along with Dennis Wilson on trombone, Ben Haugland on piano, Richard Mikel on bass and myself on drums. Andrew has remained a local favorite for Ace Gillett’s, and it’s always a fun Friday with him on the bandstand. It’s hard to believe that nine years have passed so quickly, and even harder to comprehend that I have played in the same venue for over 1300 nights! Come raise a glass to Ace’s past, present and future on what is sure to be a memorable night.
Saturday, 3/30 – 8:00 to Midnight
The Ben Markley Trio is back, featuring Ben on piano, Seth Lewis on bass and myself on drums. Ben is the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Wyoming, and has been a featured performer at Ace’s for the last seven years. Ben recently finished recording with Saxophonist Joel Frahm, for a CD to be released later this year.
